Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) is a complex surgical procedure performed on peripheral nerves to alleviate pain following amputation. A surgeon advisor to Checkpoint Surgical recommended we come up with an easy way to explain TMR to the patient.
The Creative Solution
We developed an animated explainer video to fill this need. I scripted the 90-second video, which uses a metaphor to explain how post-amputation pain occurs and how TMR works to alleviate it. A freelancer created the excellent imagery and animation of the concept. The power line metaphor proved to be a highly effective and relatable way to explain TMR to patients. The video became widely used by surgeons who perform the TMR procedure.
